Become a PADI Wreck Detective with a new distinctive speciality written by the NAS to help you enjoy wreck dives even more.

Have you ever sat on the boat after a dive and felt like you must have been swimming round a different site to everyone else? Do you struggle to work out the bow from the stern, never mind all of the features in between? If so then this is the course for you. Becoming a Wreck Detective will open your eyes to the common features found on both metal and wooden shipwrecks, key identifiers to look out for and what to do next if you would like to find out more about a particular wreck site.

"It puts a whole new perspective on what you're diving as instead of randomly looking at bits of metal you start to understand what you're looking at and why it's there.  It's not going to make you an expert in underwater archaeology but you get an introduction into where to find things out about the things you're diving." Dale Spree, PADI Course Director

Becoming a Wreck Detective does not involve complicated measurements or learning survey techniques. You will be asked to produce a simple sketch of your site and to try to spot if any of the key features you would have read about in your student manual are present. Even if you are an experienced diver, you will be amazed by how much you can spot and identify on a wreck site when you are being a Wreck Detective, whether it is a first visit or a site you have visited many times before, as Dale Spree, PADI Course Director discovered - “I must have dived the Countess [of Erne] thousands of times, but when actively looking at the different features I spotted things I had not noticed before.

The Wreck Detective Course will involve 2 open water dives and students must be a minimum of PADI Adventure Diver (or equivalent) in order to take part.
